Cannon Building Wins Preservation Award

Cannon Building, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, and LPA, Inc., have been cited with a California Preservation Award for exceptional renovation and restoration of the Arboretum at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA, by the California Preservation Foundation.

The California Preservation Foundation provides statewide leadership, advocacy and education to ensure the protection of California’s diverse cultural heritage and historic places.

The Arboretum’s renovation reflected a deep commitment by all parties involved to honor the work of noted architect, Richard Neutra, who designed the building in 1961.

The project included the addition of a HVAC system that is virtually undetectable and does not interfere with the original building design in any way. Additionally, major window repair and glazing, and seismic upgrades were made to the building. One of the most significant parts of the renovation was the reinstatement of a large orange exterior panel that was designed by Neutra to be the focal point of an outdoor pulpit.

Today, the Arboretum and its surrounding campus serves as the spiritual home for more than 1.2 million Orange County Catholics.
