Women in Construction Week: Meet Debbie Jones

Meet Debbie Jones

Project Accountant: 14 Years with Cannon Building

Behind every project that closes on time and every subcontractor that gets paid accurately and on schedule, there’s someone making it happen with precision and care. At Cannon Building, that person is Debbie Jones.

As a project accountant with 14 years at the company, Debbie is a foundational part of the team—and a shining example of the talent, accountability, and dedication that defines Cannon Building’s culture.

A Day in the Life

Debbie’s days are anything but routine. From the moment she opens her inbox, she’s fielding questions from subcontractors about payment status, supporting project managers, billing owners, and carefully reviewing invoices before entering them into the accounting system. She manages the full payment cycle: from verifying insurance to confirming approvals, cutting checks, and ensuring everything is reviewed by both the CFO and President before going out the door.

“It is a variety of different tasks each day,” Debbie shares, “and I enjoy working with our team. We all help each other when needed.”

Debbie appreciates this esprit de corp.

“During my 14 years with Cannon Building, I have been welcomed like family,” she says. “I have worked at three different places in the past, and this company is top notch!”

The Challenge — and Why It Matters

One of the most demanding parts of Debbie’s role is making sure every piece of documentation is in order before a check can be cut. In construction, payments to subcontractors depend on a precise chain of approvals, paperwork, and verified compliance. Getting it right matters to all parties involved, and it’s a responsibility Debbie takes seriously every single day.

On Women in Construction Week

For Debbie, Women in Construction Week is a moment to celebrate how far the industry has come—and how much further it can go.

“I think of this being a traditionally male-dominated field, and when we have women in construction, I am so proud of them and everything they contribute,” she says. “I like that Cannon Building takes the time to honor us. I would love to see more companies do the same.”

Excited for What’s Ahead

As Cannon Building enters the next chapter with plans for expansion, Debbie is energized by the road ahead.

“I am looking forward to the new growth and being a part of the changes that will come,” she says. “I believe we have a good team that will make this happen.”
