Cannon Building and DISC Sports and Spine Center: Expanding World-Class Health Care Services

Cannon Building is excited to announce our role in the expansion of the DISC Sports and Spine Center facilities beyond Newport Beach, currently the main DISC Sports and Spine Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) location. Construction crews recently broke ground at the Los Angeles site in Marina del Rey with work well underway as part of DISC’s expansion across Southern California. This new location will serve the health care/surgical needs of the metropolitan Los Angeles market.

DISC Sports & Spine Center is California’s premier provider of spine care, orthopedics, pain management, and sports medicine. With a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center in Newport Beach and a full-service clinic in Marina del Rey, DISC has set a new standard for high-acuity, minimally invasive spine surgery and orthopedic sports medicine surgical procedures in an outpatient setting.

On this project, Cannon Building will provide general contracting services, working closely with Taylor Architects & Design team to create a new ASC to support DISC’s Los Angeles Sports and Spine practice.

“This is a very important project for us, given the high-impact health care services DISC has offered the Southern California community for many years,” said Tim Cannon, president of Cannon Building. “We are honored to be a construction partner as they expand into new regions and offer state-of-the art spine/surgery care to more people in need.”

DISC Founding Director Robert S. Bray Jr., MD, a board-certified neurological spine surgeon, founded DISC in 2006 after a successful career at Cedar Sinai, where he founded The Institute for Spinal Disorders.

“It is rewarding to be involved in a project that has such an impact on improving patient outcome after spinal surgery,” says Kevin Crider, project manager at Cannon Building. “Collaboration and teamwork have played an essential part in the success of this important project. Working with Taylor Architects and DISC in the preconstruction phase, Cannon Building has been able to work out creative solutions for dealing with the current equipment/material and supply chain challenges.”

This project is targeted for a May 2023 completion date.
