Project Engineer - Intern Job Description

Project Engineer (Entry Level)

 

The Project Engineer should possess and exercise commitment, initiative, integrity and teamwork in the execution of their duties. This position assists Cannon Building’s project teams in the management of construction projects and the associated communications with project architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and clients.

Job Purpose

Provide support to the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Superintendent. Utilize general knowledge of construction methods and techniques in organizing, controlling, monitoring and recording all activities which are a part of the construction management and estimating of projects.

Responsibilities

• Use effective verbal and written skills to assist with communication between the owner/client, architect, consultants and the project team.
• Assist in the preparation of estimates, subcontracts, drawing lists, scopes of work and schedules.
• Gain proficiency in the use of Project Management Systems to assist in the management and control of estimating / construction processes and project documentation including change orders, subcontractor claims, purchase orders, submittals RFI’s and shop drawings. Keep organized files of all documents.
• Assist with the review and processing of shop drawings and submittals to ensure compliance with construction documents.
• Participate in the monitoring and preparation of RFI logs, submittal logs, subcontractor status reports, testing and inspection reports, safety inspection reports, change order logs and other related documents for use by the Project Manager, Superintendent and Project Engineer. Assist the Project Engineer with the issuance of updated logs to the Project Team on a weekly basis.
• Assist in the preparation, monitoring and updating of the CPM project schedule. Help coordinate this schedule with the Superintendent’s “3 week look ahead” schedule. Establish a material delivery schedule/log from the submittal log and assist in their integration into the project schedule.
• Review RFI’s for accuracy, references and detail including interpretation of drawings and specifications as they relate to the RFI. Assist with keeping record drawings updated and RFI’s posted. Ensure that as-built drawings are kept up to date and in order.

PROJECT ENGINEER (ENTRY LEVEL)

• Participate in Operations and Safety meetings to help facilitate and enforce jobsite safety at all times.
• Assist in the preparation of documents for final estimates, project meetings, safety meetings and coordination meetings. Prepare meeting minutes and distribute using the Project Management System.
• Assist in the preparation of project close out documents including punch lists, operations manuals and warranties.
• Gain proficiency in basic estimating skills including quantity take offs, spreadsheet analysis, and unit pricing that can be utilized in the bid process and review of change order pricing.

Technical Skills

• Ability to recognize problems and produce workable alternative solutions.
• Proactively solves problems.
• Knowledge and understanding of construction methods and techniques.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and Word, Bluebeam PDF

Education
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or in the process of obtaining a degree.
